Fabric
History
Georgette fabric made of silk.
French dressmaker "Georgette de la Plante" introduced Georgette fabric in the early twentieth century.
It was denoted class, dresses were only worn by royal families as they were expensive, nevertheless, elegant.
Surface
Georgette has a fine, lightweight, and grainy texture. The plain weave fabric has a soft roughness and is easy to carry.
Hold
Georgette has a crushed or twisted feel, the sheer comes in both translucent and opaque textures.
Crease
Georgette has tightly twisted yarns used in the weave for a fold appearance but doesn’t hold creases.
Transparency
Georgette is fairly breathable without synthetic fibers. The fabric reflects in the room-light, and sunlight.
Drape
Georgette is a flowy fabric having a nice structure and drapes beautifully.
Stretch
Georgette has a low stretchability due to its bounce.
Production
Georgette fabric is weaved by alternating between two ends of hard twist yarns.
The production is biodegradable, involves sustainable practices, consequently, is environmentally-friendly.
Maintenance
Dry Cleaning
Dry cleaning is recommended.
Nonetheless, it’s the best way to go to maintain the longevity of the blouse.
Hand Wash
The blouse can also be hand washed with special care.
Avoid the use of bleach or any other harsh chemicals. Use a delicate detergent in cold water.
Turn them inside out. Soak it in a tub filled with cold water (no more than 20 minutes).
Move it around to let the soap distribute evenly. Squeeze the blouse to remove excess water and rinse.
Machine Wash
Avoid the use of bleach or any other harsh chemicals.
Use a very gentle detergent and select the delicate cycle. Turn the blouse inside out.
The water temperature should be cold and the spin is on low.
Air Drying
Avoid drying it in the dryer.
Use a flat surface or on a drying rack and allow it to air dry completely.
Avoid stretching and wringing the blouse as it will cause them to lose their shape.
Do not wire or use clips as they can create marks on the blouse.
Stain Wash
In case of spills on the blouse, wash immediately.
Dry cleaning may be required for greasy stains.
Shrinking
Georgette doesn't shrink. The fabric is pre-washed and pre-shrunk before sewing.
Sun Exposure
Avoid direct sunlight to avoid the fading of the blouse.
Ironing
Use a steamer only to get creases out of the blouse.
In the case of ironing, use a thick terry towel on top of the blouse to press and move in the direction of the pile.
Iron the blouse on low heat while the garment is still moist.
